Why such a crazy name?

Of course you’re wondering why we’re called Magical Pork. Who wouldn’t wonder?

Our name comes from

  • magic – “In the context of computer programming, magic is an informal term for abstraction – it is used to describe code that handles complex tasks while hiding that complexity to present a simple interface. …” and
  • pork barrel – “appropriation of … spending for projects that are intended primarily to benefit particular constituents.”

Magical Pork undertakes projects aimed at benefiting a specific group by writing code that handles complex tasks through simple interfaces.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Libby Hemphill, the founder, makes a mean carnitas.

Magical Pork gets some press

Introducing Magical Pork

Magical Pork mashes up for fun and profit. By “mashup,” we mean we take data from multiple sources and combine it in one integrated tool to make your work and play easier, more interesting, and less time consuming. For instance, our first imprint, Tweeteorology, mashes up social media reports, geography, and live weather information to give you accurate and entertaining weather information.

Yes, mash ups are cool. Programmable Web can show you all kinds of cool mashups. We don’t build them because they’re cool, though; we build tools to solve problems.

The Magical Pork team is hard at work on a new line of mashup-based web tools that will change the way you plan vacations, how you know what people are saying about your business online, and how to reach your potential customers more directly. If you’re interested in having a custom mashup tool built for your company, contact us and let us know what problem we can help you solve.
